What Salmon Should I Use? 

Any variety of salmon will work for this recipe. We prefer fresh and wild caught fish when we can find it.

When choosing fresh salmon at the store you want to look for a vibrant color and there shouldn’t be any noticeable fishy odor. 

Frozen salmon filets can be used as well, but they’ll need to be thawed prior to cooking.

Honey Orange Glazed Salmon Ingredients 

  • juice of 2 oranges
  • honey
  • low sodium soy sauce
  • garlic powder
  • parsley
  • olive oil
  • salmon filets
  • cornstarch 
  • cold water

How to Make Salmon with Honey Orange Glaze 

Preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees F. 

While the air fryer is preheating, juice the oranges into a medium bowl then whisk in the honey, soy sauce, garlic powder, and parsley.

Pour the oil into an 8” baking pan and place the salmon filets skin side down in the pan. Pour the orange honey glaze ingredients over the top. 

Air fry for 8-10 minutes, checking them at the halfway point, and adjusting cooking time if needed.

Whisk together the cold water and cornstarch in a small bowl. 

Once the salmon is finished cooking, remove the filets from the pan. Whisk the cornstarch slurry into the sauce until thickened. Then spoon the orange sauce over the top of the salmon just before serving.

Stovetop Instructions 

Combine all of the ingredients except for the salmon, cornstarch, and water in a small saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce to a simmer for a few minutes. 

Using a large frying pan, sear the salmon with a little oil over medium heat for 3-4 minutes of cooking on each side. 

Whisk the cornstarch and water together, then pour it into the sauce and whisking until it thickens up. 

Pour the honey orange glaze over the salmon filets and cook for another minute for two. Remove from heat and serve.

Tips for Making Salmon in the Air Fryer

  • If you don’t have a juicer, push a small, sturdy whisk into the orange halves to extract the juice. 
  • If you don’t have fresh oranges, substitute 1/2 – 2/3 cup ready made orange juice.
  • To ensure even cooking, use salmon filets that are similar in size. 
  • Check to make sure the pan fits in your air fryer basket before starting. Depending on your air fryer model you may need to use a smaller pan. 
  • The salmon is fully cooked when it flakes easily with a fork, is opaque in color, and the internal temperature is 145 degrees. Use an instant read thermometer to check the temperature. Do not overcook it! 

How to Store, Serve, and Reheat Air Fried Salmon

Place leftovers in an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer for 3-5 minutes at 350 degrees F. 

The leftover salmon can be chopped and served in tacos or over a salad for a new take on this delicious dinner.

  • Add oil to an 8” pie pan, then place the salmon fillets in the pan. Pour sauce over the fillets.
  • Place the pan in the air fryer basket and cook for 8-10 minutes until cooked through (see Notes).

  • Remove the cooked salmon from the pan and whisk the cornstarch slurry into the juices. The cornstarch mixture will thicken the juices into a sauce consistency.

  • Substitute 1/2 – 2/3 cup of orange juice if you don’t have fresh oranges.
  • Use similarly sized filets to ensure even cooking.
  • Make sure the 8” pie pan will fit in your air fryer basket. Use a smaller pan if needed.
  • Don’t overcook the salmon. It is done when it reaches 145 degrees F, is opaque and flakes easily with a fork. Use a meat thermometer to check the temperature.
