Air Fryer Naan Bread {with Garlic Butter}
Air Fryer Naan Bread with Garlic Butter is a great side dish and you can even use it to make pizzas. This is an easy alternative compared to store bought and it uses pantry staples.
I may not have hopped on the bread making train in 2020, but when I discovered I could make Naan bread in my air fryer, I totally took advantage! And if you’re an Auntie Anne’s lover, check out my air fryer soft pretzel copycat recipe.
Making yeast bread is typically a hassle in my opinion, but this simple recipe is easy enough that anyone can do it. Not to mention, Naan brings a whole new dimension to the bread lover’s world.
If you are wondering, Naan bread is similar to a flatbread or a pita. You can use it to make sandwiches, pizzas, and even tacos if I’m lucky.
You can use this kind of bread to complement any Italian dish or grilled meats. And it goes fantastic with dips like spinach, buffalo chicken, and crab dip.
What You Need for Air Fryer Naan
Ingredients for the Bread
Active dry yeast – find these small packets on your local baking aisle if you are new to the bread world
Water – you will want the water warm, around 110 -115 degrees

Flour – all purpose

Kitchen Tools and Gadgets
- Mixing Bowls
- Stand Mixer with Dough Hook
- Air Fryer – I have three but my favorite one is my Cosori
- Brush – for brushing the butter on
I use the Cosori air fryer, and it has been great if you are shopping for a new model or want to upgrade.
How To Make Naan Bread in the Air Fryer
Start by adding the yeast, warm water, and sugar to your mixing bowl (that one that goes with your stand mixer). After you have mixed it together, let it sit for about 10 minutes. Once the yeast has activated you will notice it’s slightly foamy.
Pour in the flour, milk, Greek yogurt, garlic, baking powder, and salt. Insert your dough hook, start the mixer and let it do it’s thing until a dough ball forms.
Make sure you have a floured surface ready. Transfer the dough ball to floured area and start kneading, three minutes should do it.
Grab another small bowl and oil it well. Place the kneaded dough ball into the bowl and cover with plastic wrap. In about an hour, the dough ball should have doubled in size and that’s how you know it’s ready for the next step.
Once the proofing process has been completed, remove the dough from your bowl and cut it into 10 equal pieces (a bench scraper works well for this).
Roll into balls, then flatten on a floured counter surface. You want to size them so they fit in your air fryer basket.
Now, add the flattened Naan to the air fryer basket, and spritz with oil. Air fry at 370 degrees Fahrenheit for 9 minutes, flipping halfway through.
While you’re cooking the bread, melt the butter in a small microwavable dish, with the parsley and garlic. Once the Naan has finished cooking, brush on the garlic butter.
Repeat for the remaining dough balls.
I Don’t Have a Dough Hook, What Do I Do?
Having a dough hook and stand mixer is just easier than hand kneading. If you find yourself without these gadgets, you can just knead by hand. Make sure to keep your hands floured so the dough doesn’t get too sticky.
Can You Freeze Homemade Naan Bread?
Yes and you have two options to do so.
If you want to freeze the uncooked dough, once it has proofed and you have cut the Naan into individual dough balls, lay them on a baking sheet and flash freeze. This just means to place it openly on a baking sheet in the freezer for about 20-30 minutes. Remove the tray from the freezer and place the dough balls in a freezer bag, in single layers separated by parchment or freezer paper.
You can also freeze Naan bread it after it has cooked and completely cooled. I wait to add the garlic butter until I reheat.
To reheat, let it thaw just a bit in the refrigerator or on the counter, then heat it back up in the air fryer or oven. Brush with garlic butter after it’s cooked.
