Most people would probably choose the grill if they had to pick a favorite way to cook burgers. I did, too, until I discovered the air fryer version! Like most recipes before the air fryer, we were used to cooking things the traditional way. Check out some of the recipes we have transformed from the traditional way of cooking below.

But by using the air fryer you can say goodbye to deep fried and lengthy meals, and hello to convenience and deliciousness.

The outside of the patties have just the right amount of crisp, but the inside is juicy every bite. And if you’re looking to take your burger game to the next level try these Banh Mi style Asian chicken burgers.

Recipes That You Can Make in the Air Fryer That Will Surprise You:

What You Need To Make Air Fryer Hamburgers

Ground beef – we prefer a lean blend, you can also swap this for ground turkey or chicken

Spices: salt, pepper, paprika, garlic and onion powder

Optional Toppings and Serving Suggestions

  • Cheese
  • Red onion
  • White onion
  • Lettuce
  • Tomato
  • Bacon
  • Pickles
  • Ketchup
  • Mustard
  • Mayo
  • Barbecue sauce
  • Buns
  • Large lettuce leaves for a bunless, low carb option

How To Make Hamburgers in the Air Fryer

Combine the ground beef and seasonings into a medium size mixing bowl and mix just until combined.

Divide the meat into four equal patties. Roll each portion into a ball then flatten them out. Make a slight depression in the middle of the patties – this keeps the burgers from puffing up.

Preheat your air fryer, then add the patties in a single layer (after the air fryer has preheated) without them touching each other.

Cook at 370 degrees F for about 7 minutes, then flip them until they finish cooking to the temperature of your liking.

To Turn Hamburgers to Cheeseburgers

After the burgers have cooked, place a slice of cheese on each patty. Close the basket, allowing the cheese to melt from the residual heat (about 1 minute).

Can You Freeze Air Fryer Burger Patties?

Yes! You can freeze the patties after they’ve been cooked, or freeze the uncooked patties. This is a great way to meal prep and all you have to is toss them in the air fryer when you are ready to cook them.

To reheat after they have been frozen, toss them in the basket and cook at 350 degrees for 10 minutes, flipping at the halfway point.

Tips for Making

  • I use a lean (93/7) burger blend and think the burgers are juicy. You can use 85/15 or 80/20 if you prefer.
  • Make patties the same size to ensure even cooking.
  • Don’t over knead the meat or the burgers will be tough.
  • Cooking temps (use a food thermometer for an accurate reading):
145 degrees = medium; 155 degrees = medium well done.
  • If smoke is a problem, add 1-2 tablespoons of water in the bottom of the basket. You can also use a slice of bread in the bottom basket to soak up the grease.
  • You may need to cook in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.
  • When making the patties, use your thumb and press down in the middle of each pattie. This will keep the burgers from swelling up.
