Air Fryer Crab Rangoon are crispy and bursting with flavor. Dip in our homemade sweet and sour sauce for the ultimate taste experience.

Before we go any further, I should tell you I am pretty picky when it comes to my crab rangoon. Some places just can’t get it right. They aren’t crispy enough, too much cheese, not enough crab, and the list goes on.

One of my favorite places to order Crab Rangoon is P.F. Changs. This recipe may not be the exact same but these are SO delicious. And I don’t need to leave my house when a craving hits.

I love making these in my air fryer because they are healthier than the traditional deep fry method of cooking them. And that means I don’t have to feel guilty for indulging in these tasty little pockets of cheese and crab.

Traditionally served as an appetizer, crab rangoon could be served as a main course because they are so filling. They also make for a fun party appetizer.

Be sure to read until the end, because we are giving tips on how to make these ahead of time so they are even easier to serve.

How to Make Crab Rangoon in the Air Fryer

Place the crab meat into a food processor bowl and process until it is fine. If you like larger chunks of crab meat, that’s okay too.

Next add the chopped crab, softened cream cheese, green onion, and soy sauce to a mixing bowl. Using a hand mixer, mix until it’s smooth and creamy.

Spoon out one teaspoon of the crab mixture and place it on the center of a wonton wrapper. DO NOT overload the wrapper, or they’ll burst open while cooking.

Coat the edges of the wrapper lightly with water (use your finger or a small pastry brush).

Pull the middle of the sides of the wrapper and close together to seal while pushing the air out.

Repeat for the remaining crab rangoon.

Prepare your air fryer basket by spraying with a little oil or use a parchment paper liner

Add the crab rangoons to the basket. Do not overload the basket or let them touch each other.

Spritz rangoons with a little oil then air fry for 10 minutes on 370 degrees.

Repeat until all crab rangoons have been cooked.

To keep them warm until your batch is finished, set your oven on its lowest heat setting and add them to a baking tray or an oven safe dish to keep warm in the oven

Air fried crab rangoon is best served right away.

Instructions for Homemade Sweet and Sour Sauce

Before you make the crab rangoon or while they are cooking, you can make the sauce.

Combine all of the ingredients in a saucepan and cook on medium heat until it boils. Turn off heat and allow to cool until ready to serve. Sauce can be served warm or at room temperature.

What Kind of Crab Meat Should I Use?

This is really a personal preference. However, if you are using frozen crab, be sure to let it thaw before adding it to the food processor.

If you are using real crab meat, note that the “fishy” taste may be a little stronger compared to imitation crab.

Making Crab Rangoon Ahead of Time + How To Freeze

This is a great recipe to make ahead of time and keep them in the freezer, making it easy to make whenever a craving hits.

Prepare the crab rangoon as the instructions state, but instead of cooking them, we are going to freeze them.

Place them on a baking sheet and put them in the freezer for 20-30 minutes. Then add them to a freezer safe bag and store. When they come out of the freezer they should be pretty hard so you’ll want to handle them carefully so they don’t break when you store them.

To reheat them (from frozen), add them to the air fryer basket without touching, spritz with a little oil and add a couple minutes to the cooking time.

If you are reheating from the refrigerator, lower the temperature slightly and heat until they are warmed through.

  • 2 tablespoons chopped green onions
  • 30 small wonton wrappers

  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar

Instructions

Sauce Instructions

  • In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine sauce ingredients. Whisking continually, bring sauce to a boil. Once boiling, turn off the heat, and let it sit until ready to serve.

Rangoon Instructions

  • In a food processor, process crab meat until finely chopped.
  • Place cream cheese, crab, soy sauce and onion into a mixing bowl. Mix on low for 3 minutes. Mixture should be completely combined and smooth.
  • Place one teaspoon of crab mixture in the center of a wonton wrapper. Dip fingertip into water and lightly coat the edges of the wrapper.
  • To seal the rangoon, pull together the middle of the sides of the wrapper. Close the sides together while gently pushing excess air out.
  • Spray the air fryer basket lightly with oil. Place the rangoons in the air fryer basket, making sure they aren’t touching. Spritz with oil.
  • Cook on 370 degrees F for 10 minutes. You may have to cook in batches depending on your basket size.

Notes

  • You can use fresh, frozen or imitation crab. Thaw first if using frozen crab.

  • You can use a parchment liner in place of spraying the basket with oil. Wait to place the liner until after you’ve preheated the air fryer.
  • These are best eaten fresh.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for 1-2 days. The sauce will keep for up to 7 days.
  • To freeze: prepare rangoons up to cooking. Place on a sheet tray and flash freeze for 20-30 minutes. Store in a ziptop freezer bag for up to 1 month. To reheat from frozen: add to basket, spritz with oil and add a few minutes to the cooking time.
