Using the air fryer to make chicken parm seems crazy, but it’s a game changer. And I absolutely love it!

The chicken comes out crispy, the cooking time is quick and there’s minimal cleanup. And it’s easy to make single servings or larger batches depending on the size of your air fryer.

Another good thing about this easy air fryer recipe is that although it serves four you’ll only need 2 chicken breasts making it budget-friendly too.

What You Need to Make Chicken Parmesan in the Air Fryer

Ingredients

Chicken breasts – you will need 2 that are around 8 ounces in size. We are using boneless skinless, and slicing them in half lengthwise

Cornstarch

Nature’s Seasoning

Eggs

Panko breadcrumbs

Parmesan – the grated kind

Parsley

Mozzarella – you can use the pre-shredded kind, but freshly grating the mozzarella takes chicken parm to a whole new level

Marinara sauce – store-bought or homemade will work (Rao’s brand is our favorite)

Kitchen Equipment You Will Need

Air Fryer – but, of course! My favorite model is Cosori

Shallow bowls – these are to set up the station to bread the chicken

Basting brush – to brush on the marinara

How to Make Air Fryer Chicken Parmesan

Start by preheating the air fryer to 380 degrees F.

Next, you need to set up the dredging station. In the first bowl add the cornstarch and Nature’s Seasoning, then mix it together.

In the second bowl, whisk together the eggs.

Add the parmesan, panko breadcrumbs, and some of the parsley to the third bowl and stir.

Now you’ll coat each piece of chicken in the breading by dipping it into the cornstarch mixture first, then the eggs, and ending with the breadcrumb mixture.

Spray the air fryer basket with a little oil or use a parchment paper liner

Add the breaded chicken in a single layer to the basket.

Using an oil mister, spritz each chicken breast with a little bit of oil then cook it for 6 minutes.

At the six-minute mark, flip each piece of chicken and brush on the marinara with a basting brush, and top with mozzarella cheese.

Finish cooking, which should be about 3-4 more minutes.

Time to serve over your favorite pasta and enjoy!

Tips for Making Chicken Parm in the Air Fryer

  • Keep the chicken pieces a similar size, pounding down any thick spots. Thinner chicken will cook faster.
  • You may need to cook in multiple batches depending on the size of your air fryer basket.
  • Air fryer chicken parm is best eaten fresh. If you want to reheat leftovers, warm for just a few minutes at 350 degrees F.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days.
  • Before serving, use a thermometer to make sure that the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165 degrees F.

What to Serve with Crispy Chicken Parmesan

We like to pair crispy chicken Parm with a simple Romaine salad and a crusty loaf of French bread.
